This work The dance II is the second version made by Henri Matisse at the request of a great art collector, Sergej Shukin.
Henri Matisse, referring to The Dance II, declared: «The first element of the construction was the rhythm, the second a vast dark blue surface (allusion to the Mediterranean sky in the month of August); the third a dark green (the green of Mediterranean pines). Starting from these elements, the characters could only be red, to obtain a luminous accord. "
