Paleolithic art - Bison painting at Altamira II
Year: 18,500-14,000 years ago.
In 1879 the amateur archaeologist Marcelino Sanz de Sautuola discovered, thanks to his 9-year-old daughter María, the paintings on the vault of a cave in Altamira near Santillana del Mar in Cantabria, in northern Spain. The wall paintings date back to the Upper Paleolithic and depict wild mammals and human hands.
