Vincent van Gogh - Iris in Vase on a Yellow Background (or Still Life with Iris)
Year: 1890 - oil on canvas 73.5x92 cm
Preserved at: Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, Holland
In April 1890 Vincent van Gogh painted several still lifes with flowers. He also made this Still Life with Iris, also known as Potted Iris on a yellow background. The artist chose two complementary colors, the blue of the flowers and the yellow of the background, to enhance the intensity of the chromatic structure of the image.
