Claude Monet's carnival at the boulevard des Capucines depicts the boulevard des Capucines from a terrace of the studio of photographer Nadar.
Claude Monet transfers to the canvas the crowded avenue of people intent on celebrating the carnival by walking along the leafless trees, some of which are illuminated by a warm golden light.
The carnival on the boulevard des Capucines was exhibited for the first time in 1874, but was not appreciated either by the public or, especially by the critics.
