Year: 1889 - oil on canvas cm 64x50

Vincent van Gogh painted Still Life with Drawing Board, Pipe, Onions and Sealing Wax in January 1889 just after the painter, discharged from the hospital after having his ear cut, returned to the "Yellow House".
To demonstrate that he could return to painting, he created a group of still lifes, including this one.
In the varied composition of the objects on the drawing board we see the book Annuaire de la santè, by Raspail (the envelope reads the recipient, Monsieur Vincent van Gogh), the candle lit in the lie, the tobacco bag, the pipe, the onions, the jug of water, the empty wine bottle, the unlit match and the sealing wax.
