Leonardo da Vinci's painting Madonna with a flower is also known as Madonna Benois from the name of the family that owned it for a long time, the Benois. The work shows the Madonna and Child in a dark room, illuminated at the bottom by a mullioned window. Maria, seated, holds a flower in one hand and holds the Baby Child on her knees who tries to grab it, with a concentrated gaze and trying to coordinate his movements, as very young children do.
