Café at night is the picture that Vincent van Gogh painted in September 1888. Its title is written in the lower right corner under the signature.
The painting depicts the interior of the Café de la Gare, in Place Lamartine in Arles, with a half-covered door in the central background leading, presumably, to more private rooms. Five customers sit at the tables along the walls to the left and right and near the pool table, in the center of the room, the owner, Ginoux, seems to have been portrayed standing. The colors are bright and vibrant: the ceiling is green, the upper walls are red, the gas lamps are glowing, and the wooden floor is largely yellow.
